The Perils Of Show Jumping Sport - 14

Good morning - or should I say bon dia!!

The WKD Team have now relocated to sunny Vilamoura for the Champions Tour >> http://alubox.pt/tw/98 for the next month! Zorro and Pepper are in the field playing and having a well-earned break; yes I hear gasps all round as people read this and exclaim! These valuable jumpers are in the field.....they are horses and are meant to be in the field!!!

OK their fields are beautifully fenced and maintained - but still fields. At Sycamore our philosophy has always been to treat them as horses first, and I believe if they are mentally sound and happy then we will see this when they are in the ring - like us these top horses get bored with too long a break - and they usually tell us when they are ready to start back.

So we have brought seven horses down to the Algarve (The southernmost region of mainland Portugal) to extend the outdoor season and chase the sun. It's a super show, very relaxed and perfect for trying new horses, doing a bit more with the young horses after their summer break and developing new partnerships.

Hopefully things will go well. Sam will jump WKD Diva, our feisty seven-year old, faithful, Limelight De Breve, Elegance Casablanca (owned by fellow Egyptian Karim Abdel Fattah), WKD Cairo (our hors la Loi gelding who will hopefully move up to the big classes), and a new mare owned by a neighbour at home Marcus Buzer, Princess Leah. I will pinch Lady’s Queen off Sam this wee, but am pretty sure this will only be a temporary transfer as with three ranking classes every weekend Sam will have his eye on those valuable points!!!

So here's hoping for a good start and I’ll catch up with you all soon.

Best wishes - Joanne x
