FIERCE LINE UP AT CSIO5* ROME PIAZZA DI SIENA 2025
Following last weekend’s events at the swish Royal Windsor Horse Show, all eyes have now turned to one of, if not, the most popular equestrian venues in the world, the Piazza di Siena in Rome.
A fierce line up from the top ranked showjumping riders in the world and their horses will be there to compete in the CSIO5* from the 21st of May until the 25th in one of Rolex’s seven Series Equestrian.
At Villa Borghese, the coming days’ highlights will be the Rolex Grand Prix on Sunday the 25th of May where the event brings the second leg of the series to the first nation in Europe.
US rider Karl Cook hopes to defend his Rolex Grand Prix title with his remarkable 13-year-old mare Caracole de La Roque after their 2024 win. The start list includes top names such as Austria’s Max Kühner, Rolex Ambassador Brazil’s Rodrigo Pessoa, GB’s Ben Maher, Switzerland’s back from back surgery Steve Guerdat, Ireland’s Cian O’Conner and much more. Middle Eastern representation include Saudi’s Dalma Malhas and the UAE’s Abduallah Al Marri, Omar Al Marzooqi and Abdullah Al Muhairi.
The host nation will be represented by names such as Piergiorgio Bucci who claimed victory in the CSI4* Grand Prix in Gorla Minore last weekend, as well as Lorenzo De Luca, Emanuele Gaudiano, Giulia Martinengo Marquet, and Luca Marziani.
At the Intesa Sanpaolo Nations Cup, 10 nations will try for first place, and so watchful gazes will be targeted at the German team as they try to defend their title.
**Note: Karl Cook would become the second rider in history to defend a Rome Grand Prix crown if he wins this year. The only rider to do so in two consecutive years in 1995 and 1996 was Germany’s Franke Sloothaak and his horse Joli Coeur.
