BELGIANS BECOME BRAND NEW EUROPEAN SHOWJUMPING CHAMPIONS IN A CORUNA

Longines FEI Jumping European Championship - Day 3

A large crowd gathered at Casas Novas to be present for third Team qualifier reserved for the top 10 nations after the first two rounds. The medal positions remained undecided until the very last ride, heightening the event's excitement.

Great Britain, who had entered the round as provisional leaders, were overtaken by a consistent Belgian Team performance; they finished the Championship with a total of 5.61 points, thanks to a flawless round from Nicola Philippaerts on his Katanga VH Dingenhof, a one-point round from his team mate, Thibeau Spits on Impress-K Van’t Kattenheye Z, and a decisive clear round from another team mate, Gilles Thomas with Ermitage Kalone. The team's fourth member, Pieter Devos, scored 4 faults with Casual DV Z, a score that was not counted.

The silver medal went to Great Britain who ended with 7.96 points. The British team comprised Ben Maher ridding Dallas Vegas Batilly, Matthew Sampson on Medoc de Toxandria, Donald Whitaker on Millfield Colette, and Scott Brash with Hello Folie.

Germany claimed bronze, starting the final round with 4.19 points and finishing on 8.19. Their squad included Marcus Ehning riding Coolio 42, Sophie Hinners riding Iron Dames My Prins, Christian Kukuk on Just Be Gentle, and Richard Vogel with United Touch S.
