MOHAMED EL BORAIE BLASTS THROUGH TO WIN CSI2* GRAND PRIX OF CAIRO

The three-day CSI2* Cairo International Showjumping Competition reached its thrilling conclusion yesterday (18 October) at the Police Sports Federation in Wadi El Forosya. The event saw up to 200 national and international horse and rider combinations compete across multiple classes/tours ending in the ultimate test: the Grand Prix of Cairo.

The Course:

The Grand Prix was a challenging one-round competition against the clock followed by a jump-off. Course designer Ashraf Abdullah crafted a technical yet flowing track. The opening lines allowed riders a moment to settle, but the difficulty soon ramped up with a tight turn leading immediately into a double combination on a calculated stride.

The middle section demanded precision, requiring horse and rider to approach a large, wide triple combination on a related distance and a curve. The final line brought the course home quickly with a long five-stride gallop from a vertical to a powerful oxer, followed by an immediate left turn to the final vertical.

The Jump-Off:

The primary round proved selective with only four Egyptian riders managing to deliver a clear round and advance to the deciding jump-off:

Egyptian Armed Forces Colonel, Mohamed Osama El Boraie on Gin Lady Tivoli Z

Ahmed Alaa Ragab on Happy Boy

Ismaiel El Boraie (Col. El Boraie's 17-year-old son) on Kadoky

Abdelfatah Elhussein Eissa on Ilse

The jump-off was designed for raw speed and turns - setting a time allowed of 45 seconds.

First to go, veteran El Boraie set an aggressive standard, going clear in a blazing 40.92 seconds.

Next his son, Ismaiel, fresh off winning the previous Medium Tour class just a few hours earlier, entered the arena seemingly determined to beat his father. Though he was faster, clocking in at 40.30 seconds, a rail down resulted in four faults, costing him the lead.

Ahmed Alaa Ragab was unable to match the winner’s pace, crossing the timers clear but in a more cautious 43.92 seconds. Last to ride, Abdelfatah Elhussein Eissa struggled with the pressure, finishing with 16 faults in 52.36 seconds.

In a thrilling jump-off that pitted father against son, it was ultimately El Boraie’s mileage of experience that secured the Army a win on Police grounds. He claimed the CSI2* Cairo Grand Prix title, with Ahmed Alaa Ragab taking second and Ismaiel in third.
