DUFFY, PHILIPPAERTS AND VAN DER VLEUTEN AMONG THE INTERNATIONAL STARS AT CSI3* MAEZA 2025
Friday the 7th of July marks the start of the fifth edition of CSI Maeza at Yeguada Finca Maeza, located in Sariego, Asturias, Spain. The event once again establishes itself as a key fixture on the international calendar, attracting top-level riders from up to 18 countries: Belgium, Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Finland, France, Great Britain, Guatemala, Ireland, Mexico, the Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, and the United States.
Making his debut this year is one of the most anticipated riders, Irish Michael G. Duffy. Duffy boasts an impressive international career: he was team gold medallist at the FEI European Championships for Young Riders in Millstreet 2016, earned a team bronze at the FEI Nations Cup Final in Barcelona 2018, and has several major victories to his name, including the CSI4* Grand Prix in Montenmedio in 2021. Just last weekend, he claimed an impressive third place in the CSI2* Grand Prix in Heras.
From Belgium, brothers Thibault and Anthony Philippaerts return to Maeza, continuing the tradition of this prestigious equestrian family. Thibault comes fresh from competing in the EEF Series Nations Cup in Deauville (CSIO3*) and is currently ranked 26th in the FEI U25 standings.
Dutch rider Eric Van der Vleuten Jr., who has strong ties to Yeguada Maeza, also returns to compete. In his most recent international outing, a CSI1* in Eindhoven, he rode three horses—Helia de Maeza, Nadine, and Tigris di Jonella—achieving notable results such as eighth place in a 1.35 m class and seventh in a 1.20 m. In recent months, he has also competed with other Maeza-bred horses like Helia de Maeza and Guy de Maeza. Also representing the Netherlands is Joost Marttens, who recently took part in the CSI3* in Eindhoven, where he finished second in a 1.40 m class.
Portugal will be represented by Ricardo Gil Santos, who arrives after competing at the CSI2* in Matosinhos, where he placed fifth in a 1.30 m class. Meanwhile, Slovenian rider Hana Travner returns to Spain after two years in Florida. This year, she has competed at CSI1* and CSI3* events in Oliva, with results including fourth place in a 1.40 m class and ninth in a 1.45 m. Travner has a strong international background, having competed in Nations Cups, World Breeding Championships for Young Horses, and World Cups.
From Colombia, Nicolás Toro stands out, arriving in great form after securing second place in last weekend’s CSI2* Grand Prix in Heras.
With such a distinguished and diverse field, CSI Maeza promises to be a top-tier sporting event, offering equestrian fans the chance to enjoy an international spectacle in a unique setting. Charity tickets are now available at www.csimaeza.com for €8, with free entry for children under 12. All competitions will be streamed live on ClipMyHorse.TV in over 200 countries, and Sunday afternoon’s Maeza Grand Prix will be broadcast live on the television channel del Principado de Asturias (TPA).
The event is sponsored by Air Europa, with continued support from brands such as Grupo Eulen, CaixaBank, Oquendo, Ascor, Artiem, BMW Autosa, and Sidra Foncueva. Media partners include RTPA, ClipMyHorse.TV, and Onda Cero.
